Funks Grove Local Maple Sirup

Sap from maple trees has been harvested by Native Americans for millennia. Isaac Funk, the pioneer and founder of what would later become known as Funks Grove, started the sweet family tradition with his sons. It became a business in 1891. “Sirup” with an “i" is an old spelling referring to the product that results from the boiling down of sap, without the addition of extra sugar.

BEER NUTS

The secret family recipe has its roots right here in Bloomington. Russell Shirk packaged peanuts and other specialty nuts for the family restaurant/confectionary and two local liquor stores. With a catchy name and smart distribution, word got out and over a half-century later, the Shirks are still selling ’em across the land. All BEER NUTS products are still produced at the 100,000 square-foot facility in Bloomington.
